Most of Troutdale's housing stock went up around 1991, a good decade and a half newer than the median across the wider service area we cover from Happy Valley (1978). That gap matters for rollers. Doors installed in the early '90s almost always shipped with plain steel rollers on steel tracks - 10-ball stamped-steel units, not the nylon rollers that became standard later. Steel rollers run louder from day one, and after 30-plus years they wear oval instead of round, so the door starts to shudder in the track instead of sliding. We're a 9-mile drive out from Happy Valley to reach Troutdale, so when we get the call it's usually because the grinding has gone from annoying to constant, or a roller has already jumped the track. The climate here is mild with some freeze, so you don't get the dramatic failures ice causes elsewhere - what you get instead is slow, steady wear from decades of steel-on-steel contact, plus whatever moisture gets into the track and starts the rust going.
